Our Mission

Friends of Horn Pond, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 92-0552614) dedicated to conserve and preserve the Horn Pond Conservation & Recreation Area for current and future generations through community awareness & action, collaborative partnerships, and citizen science efforts for the advancement of environmental & wildlife habitats.

Our Programs

Our programs support the preservation of wildlife habitats, wildlife species, and water quality.

  1. Reel-In & Recycle Program to reduce for monofilament fishing line and fishing tackle waste.
  2. Protect Wildlife Habitats through debris reduction, habitat restoration, trail maintenance, and invasive species management.
  3. Operation Woburn Wildlife focused on robust rodent prevention methods, environmentally safe controls, and stronger policies targeting the root causes of rodent activity without the use of anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARS/ FGARS) within the city borders.

Our Impact

Over the past 3 years, our members have made significant contributions at the Horn Pond Conservation Area and in conservation areas across Woburn.

  • Implemented an education campaign for fishing line awareness. Collected & recycled approximately 15 miles of monofilament fishing line. Collected over 2000 fishing lures, hooks, bobbers, weights, synthetic worms
  • Hand pulled and removed over 15,000lbs of invasive water chestnut plants from the lagoon in June 2025.
  • Removed tens of thousands of debris items including trash, plastics, glass, metal, and rubber products.
  • Implemented a high level of education and community awareness for rodent prevention, safe rodent controls, and the adverse impacts of using anticoagulant rodenticide poisons to our environment, people, pets, and wildlife.
  • Reduced Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticide (SGAR) use on building projects, at business locations, and at residences.
